AnaCom PROTECTION SWITCH SYSTEM
AnaCom's Protection Switch System provides a high reliability 1 for 1 Hot-Standby configuration for the ANASAT C and Ku-Band transceivers. The Protection Switch System is ruggedly built for continuous outdoor duty in all types of environments. The Protection Controller is designed for simple, intuitive operation. TX and RX switches function independently.

The Protection System consists of a Protection Controller out-door box, and WR-229 and WR-137 waveguide switches for C-Band applications, or a pair of WR-75 waveguide switches for Ku-Band applications. Both switches include waveguide terminations for the off-line equipment. Only a single RS232/1485 interface cable is required to interface to indoor computer/dumb terminal.

Features

Easy to install and turn on.
No indoor equipment is needed.
Built in test facilities for improved maintainability and reduced dependence on external test equipment.
No external power required
Serial port for remote control
Easy to understand operation
Complete monitor control of both transceivers and protection switch from one display

Applications

When high-reliability requirements demand immediate switch-over to a spare transceiver
Rural Telecommunications Expansion
Industrial Networking
LAN and WAN extensions
Emergency link restoration
Remote Surveillance
Broadcasting
Data distribution and collection
Video Teleconferencing
Conventional Voice Traffic

PROTECTION SWITCH SYSTEM

Compact, Functional Design

AnaCom's
Protection System integrates all necessary functions into a small, highly integrated outdoor package which is designed to give highly reliable service in a wide range of environments.

The Protection Controller is fully contained in a single, small out door box with manual over-ride controls. Although normally intended for un-manned, automatic operation, the switch can be locally (or remotely) over-ridden to place a particular TX or RX switch (or both) on line and defeat the normal "switch-on-alarm" mode of operation. A single push-button (or remote command) returns the unit to completely automatic operation.

BITE Facility
To improve and simplify maintenance routines, an external terminal (or computer) can be connected to monitor a number of critical parameters without use of additional test equipment. These include:

Transceiver alarm status (TX, RX; A and B)
Switch alarm status
Switch position status

Controllable functions from the terminal include:

Force TX switch to the A side
Force TX switch to the B side
Force RX switch to the A side
Force RX switch to the B side
Restore AUTOmatic operation

Comprehensive Monitor & Control
The Monitor and Control feature allows you to monitor and control the Protection Controller and both transceivers on the same RS232/RS485 M&C bus.

An MS DOS based Software provided with each Protection Switch for use in combination with a PC for monitoring and controlling both transceivers and the Protection Switch System from one computer display. Only one RS-232/RS485 cable is required from the computer to the outdoor equipment.

Benefits
High reliability with independent TX and RX switching
Simple, intuitive operation requires minimum training
Front panel allows for direct manual switching
"Last Touch" controls allow for remote configuration or local (manual) configuration
Simple, low cost installation using a minimal number of cables
